Retinol, who are you? You see her everywhere from the drugstore to the plastic surgeon’s office. She has been the hype for many years, I believe we have all had some form of relationship with her at some point in our skin care love affair. But, have we ever really known who she is or where she’s from?
If you have used Retinol in the past, she has either broken your heart by creating the worst, burnt, chapped skin you have ever encountered or has been the answer to all of your skin care prayers. Less is more when it comes to loving her. So, here is the short and skinny on Miss Retinol…
Vitamin A is known for its big muscles for fighting free radicals, which are the bad guys that damage our cells and break down our collagen. Guess what? Miss Retinol is a derivative of vitamin A. Can I get a HOLLA?! Not only that, Vitamin A has a molecular structure that’s tiny enough to get into the lower layers of the skin, where she finds our collagen and elastin, the two most important components to healthy looking skin.
Retinol’s stronger counterpart is Tretinoin, which is the active ingredient in Retin-A and Renova. If your skin is too sensitive to use Retin-A, Retinol is an excellent alternative. Retinol is proven to improve mottled pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, skin tone and color, skin texture and your skin’s hydration levels. So, now that you know what you’re loving, you can love her even more!
One of my favorite all time Retinol products is the SkinCeuticals Retinol. I love that it works slowly so my skin doesn’t get irritated.
There you have it, the 411 on lady Retinol. Love her or hate her, she can do wonders for your skin!
